Writing the New Rules of Engagement

JobBoard

job seekerOK, let’s see how you like this: For my LinkedIn network, I’ve hooked this blog to a jobs listing service that is tailored to the locations and industries of my LinkedIn contacts. Check it out:

work-Traveller’s Good To Great JobBoard

What are the criteria that determine which jobs show up on the list? Simple. In the search listings, I include locations and keywords that are drawn from my network data on LinkedIn:

  1. Top locations in my network (greater Chicago, San Francisco Bay, greater New York City, greater Boston, greater Los Angeles)
  2. Top industries in my network (Information Technology and Services, Computer Software, Staffing and Recruiting, Telecommunications, Management Consulting, Airlines/ Aviation)

To these, I add additional locations where I or my contacts live (Fox Valley area of Illinois, north Florida’s First Coast, mid Florida’s Space Coast, south Florida’s Gold Coast) and, to make the list a bit more compelling and valuable, I add keywords to find jobs associated with the 11 companies identified by Jim Collins as “great,” in his best-selling book Good To Great:

  • Abbott Laboratories
  • Circuit City
  • Fannie Mae
  • Gillette
  • Kimberly-Clark
  • Kroger
  • Nucor
  • Philip Morris
  • Pitney Bowes
  • Walgreens
  • Wells Fargo

As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions –
